DATING SAFETY TIPS
Joining
any dating agency or any online
dating service is a great way of
meeting new, single, people and making new friends. The majority of people
who are members of any dating agency are genuine and they join for the
same reasons as you i.e. they are looking for romance and love with
someone special. However, as with any other means of meeting prospective
friends and partners it is good sense to ensure your personal safety at
all times by following a few simple guidelines.
Always remain anonymous until you feel safe
to do otherwise.
Don't give too much personal information on any online message or notice board
or in personal emails - such as
your full name or phone number.
If you do decide to give a phone number
make it a mobile number which you can change easily. A free email address
through hot mail used just for dating can be a good idea. Many dating agencies
and online personals offer you your
own email account.
Online Chat
If you feel uncomfortable with any of the
comments or suggestions left by their members stop contacting them and let
the agency know. Don't let anyone bully or control you.
Decent and serious members will never pressure you or try to make you feel
uncomfortable. Only speak
personally or meet up when you feel ready.
Before meeting face to face or speaking
on the telephone ensure you have asked a lot of questions and watch for
any inconsistencies. If you feel what they are saying is too good to be
true than maybe it is. If they don't appear to answer questions
directly, or are inconsistent with their answers - move on
Trust your instincts. There is
usually a good reason if you feel uneasy.
Meeting up
Even
if you have been chatting to a person for weeks online and feel you know
them, remember - they are still a stranger.
Agree to meet somewhere mutual,
not too far away from home and fairly busy but not so loud you can't hear
hear other talking. Always tell someone where you are going. Even better,
arrange for both of you to take a friend. Sometimes our friends have good instincts.
This is not as silly as it sounds. It may even make for a more relaxed
first meeting as with four of you there is likely to always be someone
able to break the ice and keep the conversation flowing.
Never allow your date to arrange your
transport. Use your own car where possible to ensure you can get home
when you want.
Take a mobile phone and give a few people
the number and date details.
Always have a 'get out plan' in case you
feel uneasy. never worry about feeling embarrassed about leaving. Your
safety is much more important.
Don't go home with them or invite them to your place.
Don't accept a lift home. Even if you do enjoy the date and feel ok
with the other person don't be in a rush however tempting it may be or however
sexy they are.
Use common sense and caution at all
times as you would in other aspects of life. You are in control of the
situation.

and advice section.
