| When your sex toy first arrives
Well, you've done it, you've placed an order
for a sex toy, hurrah!
When your toy arrives take a few moments
to check it for any faults or imperfections.
Check for any cracks or tears - depending
which material is used. If you find a rough edge gently file down with a
nail file before using.
Insert the batteries to make sure it
works. If unsure how to insert the batteries check the
instructions carefully.
If it doesn't work straight away don't assume it is broken.
Sometimes it is the way the batteries have been inserted. Some vibrators
take 3 batteries so check the instructions.
Cleaning your sex toy
To avoid any chance
of cross infection with your partner, or if, as some people do, they use
their sex toy on more than one part of their body, it is crucial to
clean your sex toy after each use.
Always wash before the first wash and
after using.
Good old soap and water is usually
sufficient but it can also depend on what the sex toy is made from.
Do
not submerge electric sex toys or the battery part of the vibrator.
Silicone Dildos And Non Battery Sex
Toys
Silicone sex toys are non porous, usually
hypoallergenic and the easiest sex toy to clean. You can wash it in very
hot water so the dishwasher is great - make sure your mother in law isn't
being a bit too helpful in the kitchen.
NEVER BOIL any sex toy with
batteries or electrical components. Also make sure there are no plastic or
metal parts before boiling as they can be damaged.
Silicone based sex toys are
hypoallergenic so good if you have allergies or sensitive skin and cannot
use any form of soap. Although silicone sex toys are strong you
should still be careful not to damage them with teeth or nails. Any tears
or cracks could harbour bacteria.
Cyberskin Sex Toys
Known as 'realistic sex toys'
because they really do feel like skin. This realistic material is often
used for vibrators, dildos and quite a few different men's sex toys.
Clean
thoroughly with very warm water - don't use harsh detergents or soap unless
the soap is antibacterial. Air dry, and if you want to keep that lovely
silky feel you can sprinkle with cornstarch. There is often some
'renewing' powder included when you buy your sex toy.
Do not use talcum or
baby powder etc that may cause irritation or other problems.
Rubber, Jelly and Latex Sex Toys
These toys are very porous and should
only be cleaned with a very mild antibacterial soap and warm water. Always
clean and rinse them thoroughly as any soap left behind may damage the
material and cause irritation.
Rubber sex toys need a lot of care and
should always be used with a condom. If using a lubricant ensure when you
use it with latex sex toys it is water based as oil based lubes will
damage the latex. With latex sex toys it is best to only use hot water for
cleaning.
Vinyl Sex Toys
Vinyl sex toys are light and easy to
clean and can be washed in hot water and mild hypoallergenic soap.
Leather Sex Toys
Leather harnesses should be cleaned
gently and regularly with a damp cloth.
Metal Sex Toys
Tough and easy to clean. You can boil and
disinfect it. Just make sure you dry it properly.
Plastic, Glass and Acrylic
Sex Toys
Can be washed in warm water. To sterilise
just use a cotton wool ball soaked in alcohol. Ensure you rinse the sex
toy thoroughly before putting it anywhere delicate!!
Non battery
operated Glass and Acrylic sex toys can be cleaned in very hot water.
A good antibacterial
sex toy cleaner is also a good idea and can be used with most sex
toys.
The best way to avoid infection is to use
a condom over your sex toy or/and buy different ones for vaginal and anal
play or for use by more than one person.
Always read
individual cleaner and sex toy instructions.
Storing your sex toys
Clean and dry them thoroughly.
Always remove the batteries.
Keep them away from sunlight or extreme
temperatures. A bedroom drawer is good.
Keep items separate and wrap them in soft
clothing to protect them.
